Drugs known to be metabolized by CYP450 isoenzymes 2D6 and 3A4
Plasma levels of drugs that are substrates for these cytochromes may increase if administered together with imatinib mesylate due to competition for biotransformation pathways, and those that are enzyme inhibitors or inducers may increase or decrease the plasma levels of imatinib, respectively.

Commentary by Dr.sc.nat. U. Schnorf:
The tables below are only for physicians and pharmacists because the interpretation needs a scientific education. Inhibition of Cytochromes P 450 may increase the plasma-levels of Imatinib, which could increase side effects of Imatinib; this should be communicated to the patient and be observed , but it may be inevitable for medical reasons. Inducers of Cytochromes P 450 may decrease the plasma level of Imatinib and thus compromise its activity. Such combinations are not allowed under Imatinib.
Grapefruit and Saint John’s Wort have strong interactions with Imatinib and should not be taken under Imatinib. Please compare the tables for patients (Interaktionen mit Glivec, Information für Patienten) with the commentary and recommendations.
